Soul Cakes

Start a new Catholic family tradition and bake "Soul Cakes"

Soul Cakes are small round spiced cakes, made for All Soul’s Day to celebrate and commemorate the dead.

Traditionally, soul cakes would be given out to children and the poor who would go from door to door, begging for alms or “Souling”, on All Soul’s Day.

Every cake eaten would represent a soul freed from Purgatory (reminding us to pray for them, of course).

The giving and receiving of soul cakes started in the Middle Ages and is widely seen as being the origin of trick or treating.

Here's the recipe: These are a bit of a cross between a scone and a biscuit ♡

1 cup butter 3 3⁄4 cups flour 1 cup sugar 1⁄4 teaspoon nutmeg 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon ginger 1 teaspoon allspice 2 eggs 2 teaspoons cider vinegar 6 tablespoons milk

Cream the butter and sugar together in mixing bowl until light and fluffy.

Whisk in the eggs

Add the flour and spices and enough milk to form a dough that holds together.

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and roll out to about 1/2" thick .

Bake at 350 for about 20 -25 minutes...then use powdered sugar to sprinkle on top

As always, our entire family is here to give you hope & encouragement!  We truly love you and pray for you daily!  Never hesitate to send me a prayer request!

Sending our love and prayers to our remnant family...Wendy & Walt and family

(PS:  Know that every time you purchase something on our website or help directly through the Pediatric Giving Missions, you are helping us help these families in desperate need.  Kindly consider telling folks about us and pray about becoming a monthly donor.  You will be prayed for DAILY and a candle will be lit every day for YOU!)
