Wellsley Christine's Arikara Sunflower
My daughter Wellsley Christine grows these every year on our farm. She then saves the seed and she has some she said she will share with you!
It is a native variety that was used by the Arikara nation in North Dakota.
All summer long she trims off the smaller heads that grow along the stalk and makes beautiful bouquets for our dining room table!
They produce many beautiful large, bright yellow flowers with black centers.
It produces 10-foot tall plants. She has had had them grow as tall as 13'!
The seeds are edible and yes, we eat them! We have to fight the birds for them, first..lol!
Traditionally grown for its masses of edible seeds
If you have a garden, consider planting these as they attract bee's and butterflies. A key to a healthy garden!
This heirloom seed produces flowers over a long period and as you can see, my youngest loves hiding in them (picture on the left, do you see him?)
